Juxt-a-scapes

Even though I had aspired to be a traditional painter, my fascination for photography from an early age can never be ignored. Even though I participated in some international and national photography competitions followed by exhibitions, my photographs never got as much exposure as my paintings. But the revolutionary advancement of photography from analogue to digital and the subsequent developments in the field of digital medium in the last few years have obviously opened up a new genre and category in my artistic pursuit; getting digitally composed photographic images printed on archival canvas and paper. The question which always kept my photography take to back stage was not the quality or content of the frames shot but the fact that, exhibiting them could have made me ?just another photographer?. When we zoom or super-zoom to extreme close-ups, even realistic elements offer a lot of abstract expression specially with the use of natural yet dramatic light condition. The term ?New Media? has instilled a lot of curiosity and creative challenges. When images are juxtaposed, they have a different story which are wholistic that would never be possible when they are viewed in isolation. This digital art series started off with digitally printed canvases of composite photographs that were later artistically manipulated with traditional painting medium of Pastel, Acrylic or Oil paints for the final expression. As the series progressed the later compositions became more and more of photomontages with a multitude of photographic images or elements juxtaposed within a single frame. Shankar S
